QuestionInsurance Question  My windshield and passenger side window were broken by vandals. I have full glass insurance and want to know if this coverage also includes cleaning the glass out of my car?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

You will need to read through your policy and speak to your agent to see if part of your full glass coverage includes cleaning your car of the broken glass shards.

"Full glass coverage" typically pays the entire glass loss without applying a deductible. If you did not have full glass coverage then your comprehensive deductible would apply.

If cleaning the car of the glass pieces is a service the glass replacement shop does when putting in new windows then it likely will be covered. If instead you would need to take the car elsewhere to get it cleaned out then it may not be covered.

By speaking with your agent about all the coverages afforded to you with your full glass insurance coverage you should be able to find out if you are covered for the cleaning up of the windows broken out by vandals.

Comment Update: Items stolen from a vehicle are not covered under an auto policy unless they are permanently attached. Items that could be covered are Custom Parts and Equipment, but you must buy this separate coverage at the stated amount.
