QuestionInsurance Question  I was pulled in Greene County Ohio because of a large crack in my windshield on my passenger's side. I got a ticket but no where can I find in any book or on the computer a law that says it is fine and a ticket. Can you show me some proof that this was not just made up?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

You can contact the Ohio court listed on your ticket to give you the exact portion of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) or Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) which you were cited for if you want to get specific information on the Ohio law involved in this equipment ticket.

It likely will be that the law enforcement officer cited you for unsafe equipment for the cracked windshield since this type of equipment problem would keep a car from passing an inspection. The court officer you speak with should be able tell you if this is a "fix it ticket," meaning that if you get the windshield repaired or replaced that the ticket will be dismissed, or if the ticket comes with a fine no matter if you fix the cracked windshield.

If you have comprehensive coverage on your vehicle you should be able to make a claim for your cracked windshield through this coverage to get it fixed.
