QuestionInsurance Question  When reviewing my State Farm policy (Texas) with one of my agents office staff, I mentioned that my daughter's 19 year old boyfriend had been using our residential address as his mailing address. Because he had used our address on his DL and for his own auto insurance policy, I was concerned that if he drove her car and had an accident, the records would reflect that he was a household member (and he is not). She suggested that instead of just having him correct his DL address, insurance address and vehicle registration records (in addition to all his other contacts) we should provide her with a copy of his Declarations page and add him as an exposure on our policy. Is this really necessary since he does NOT live with us and he has only driven her car one time in two years? I can't see how that would qualify as "regular" use of a vehicle.

Until your daughter's boyfriend changes his address on his insurance, driver's license and vehicle registration it may be that your insurance company requires you to add him as an exposure in the manner your agent noted since it does appear that he resides at your home.

With him having so many items stating that he does live at your residence it would be difficult to prove that he did not live there so it is likely your insurer is trying to look out for your interests and the liability or exposure of the insurance company as well.

If you are uncertain if this is the best choice for you try shopping around with other insurance companies to see if they offer up a different solution. You can also contact the Texas Department of Insurance's consumer division to see what advice they could give you in this situation and if what your agent is suggesting is a good idea or not.
