QuestionInsurance Question  I have full coverage on my car with $500 deductible, and I have Delaware insurance. Will my insurance policy cover for the cracked front windshield and do I have to pay for the deductible?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

As you may be aware, Delaware laws, specifically section 4309 named Obstructions to view on windshield or windows, do not allow the drivers view to be impeded. For that reason any cracked or broken windshield that causes an obstruction should be repaired or replaced.

With full coverages, of collision and comprehensive, you would be covered for this type of repair on your vehicle. You comprehensive coverage will cover broken glass, such as front windshield damage.

The Delaware Department of Insurance does not give any information about the deductible being waived for a windshield repair so normally your deductible would be due. You may as your specific insurance provider if they would waive the deductible but it is not a state law that they must.
