QuestionInsurance Question  I wanted to know do I need a B average to receive a driving permit?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

State laws differ however we have not heard of a state that requires you to maintain a B average in order to obtain and maintain a driving permit.

There are many states that require you to show proof that you are attending school to obtain a permit or license. These states normally will take away a permit or provisional license if they are notified that you have dropped out of school.

For example in West Virginia their Division of Motor vehicles notes that a valid school enrolment form is required to perform any drivers license transaction for any person under the age of 18.

In WV this form must be completed by the school principal, and must be accompanied by a letter from the school on their letterhead. If the applicant has already graduated from school and has not reached the age of 18 then a diploma can be used in place of the school enrollment form. Additional proofs of enrollment are as follows, GED enrollment making satisfactory progress or present a certificate of completion for the program. Enrolled in an institution of higher learning as a full time student.

If you can maintain a B average or better there are some insurance companies that will grant you a discount. This type of discount is termed a good student discount and usually comes with a minimum GPA (grade point average) that you must keep and show proof of to the insurance provider.

To find out what it takes to obtain a driving permit in your state contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles.
