QuestionInsurance Question  I received a speeding ticket in Kansas going 110 in a 75. If I do not pay the ticket, will Kansas inform Texas about the traffic violation, or do I not have to worry about the ticket going onto my Texas driving record?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Not only will Kansas inform Texas both states will likely suspend your license until you comply with the speeding ticket you received in KS.

Kansas and Texas are both members of the Drivers License Compact (DLC) and Non-Resident Violator Compact (NRVC).The DLC requires member states to report moving violations back to the licensing state of the motorist. The NRVC allows the home state of a driver to suspend their license if they fail to pay, or otherwise take care of, a moving violation ticket they received out of state.

So Kansas will inform Texas if you do pay the ticket and are convicted of it. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety they place out of state offenses onto a driver's TX motor vehicle record. The Texas points system lists that it is 2 points for a moving violation conviction in Texas or that in another state. Points however are not assigned for speeding less than 10% over the posted limit or for seat belt convictions. Your ticket for going over 100 mph is clearly above this so it would be assigned points.

If you fail to pay the ticket and thus fail to appear or comply with the citation then KS courts would inform the TX DPS which then should suspend your Texas driver's license until you properly have taken care of the Kansas speeding ticket.
