QuestionInsurance Question  I have a Florida driver's license and got my first speeding ticket in Arizona (Yavapai County) for 100 in a 75 on Highway 40. How many points will I receive on my FL license for this and how would this affect my insurance premiums? Does this have any other affect on my license?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Arizona and Florida are both members of the Drivers License Compact (DLC) which means that Arizona's traffic court will notify Florida of this speeding ticket if you plead guilty and are convicted of this offense.

When Florida finds out about this moving violation the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Services (HSMV) will add the out of state citation to your driving record and assess points if the offense is a point-accessible violation according to Florida statutes, which speeding is.

In FL unlawful speeding of 16 mph or more over the posted speed limit is 4 points on a Florida driver's license according to the HSMV's points schedule. When the AZ speeding ticket is placed on your Florida driving record your insurance company will see it the next time they pull your MVR. It will then be up to your insurance provider's rating system whether the ticket will affect your premiums or not.

We are not aware of any other affects this may have on your FL license unless you already had other points on your driver's license and this pushes your points total over 12 in 12 months which then would lead to a 30 day suspension. If your points total is higher than this then there are other penalties, such as a longer license suspension, that you may be faced with. The FL HSMV could give you more information on this out of state speeding citation and how it could affect your Florida license.
