CarInsurance.com will require you to have a license (with some of our carriers) or in the process of obtaining a US license (with some of our carriers). On our site, you may list that you have an International License, but most carriers will not return a rate unless they know you will get a license in the U.S.
We don't currently have a carrier that will offer US insurance coverage if you maintain your international license.
When buying a policy in the United States you will normally be expected to already have a driver's license issued by one of the State’s within the US or you will be expected to obtain one in order to be insured in America.
There may be some specialty carriers that will insure you in the United States with an international license, but most insurance companies require you obtain a drivers license in the state you reside before purchasing insurance or within 30 days after obtaining coverage.
We do not know of any specific specialty carriers for international drivers. If you are going to reside in one specific state for a certain length of time then you can contact that state’s Department of Motor Vehicles to see if it is possible for you to receive a driver’s license.
If you are unable to obtain a US driver’s license and need information on a specialty insurer that may cover you, contact the state’s insurance regulatory body to see if they can advise you on companies that are licensed in that particular state that would be able to cover your auto insurance needs with your foreign driver’s license.
