Georgia state law does not require medical payment insurance as part of the mandated auto coverages. What GA law requires as part of minimum liability auto insurance policy is:

  • Bodily Injury Liability coverage of $25,000 per injured person up to a total of $50,000 per accident and
  • Property Damage Liability coverage with a minimum limit of $25,000.

This basic coverage is often referred to as 25/50/25 coverage.

Medical payments, uninsured motorist, underinsured motorist and personal injury protection (PIP) are all optional coverages in the State of Georgia. Physical damage coverages of collision and comprehensive are also optional and not required by the stated however if your vehicle is financed then the lien holder will normally require these types of coverages are maintained on the car.
