QuestionInsurance Question  If my vehicles windshield is cracked and I have Comprehensive and Collision, do I need to pay a deductible for replacement in Massachusetts?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

According to the Massachusetts Division of Insurance, if an object damages your windshield, you are covered for this loss if you have Comprehensive (OTC - Other Than Collision) coverage on your vehicle.

The normal $300, $500 or $1000, or whatever you may have selected as your Comprehensive coverage deductible, does not apply to a glass loss. You will be covered for the full amount of the loss without a deductible unless you opted for a $100 deductible for glass breakage when you started your Comprehensive coverage.

So you should read through your car insurance policy to make sure you did not choose to have the $100 deductible for glass breakage and thus can get your windshield repaired or replaced by placing a claim through your Comprehensive coverage and not owe a deductible.
