QuestionInsurance Question  I was wondering for how long is the Ontario G1 driver's license valid and does it come with a photo?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

In the Canadian province of Ontario a new driver starts by obtaining a G1 learner's license. New drivers of passenger vehicles learn to drive with six important conditions with a G1 license. A new driver must hold a G1 license for a minimum of 12 months before attempting the G1 road test. This time can be reduced to eight months if you successfully complete an approved driver education course. Drivers earn more privileges after passing their G1 road test.

In Ontario, Canada the level 1 license is valid for up to 5 years. To move up to level 2 or G2 status you must pass a road test.

Your G1 or G2 license will expire 5 years after you received your original G1 license. If you have not passed the G1 and G2 road tests and earned a full G license by within 5 years you will have to need to redo the knowledge test to get a G1 and/or retake the G1 road test to get your G2.

From what we have read the G1 and G2 both do have your photo on them however you would need to check with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) for information on exactly what the G1 learner's license looks like and if you can use it a photo ID.
