Feb. 7--BOSTON -- As the state's biggest auto insurers wage an all-out war over who can write policies for the 4 million automobile drivers in Massachusetts, the people sitting the prettiest so far may be Beacon Hill politicians and their campaign coffers. Two of the state's biggest auto insurers, Commerce Insurance Co. of Webster and Liberty Mutual of Boston, have donated tens of thousands of dollars to key political figures in the last year alone. Arthur J. Remillard Jr., the powerful president and chairman of Commerce, who plans to retire in July, donated $34,700 to political candidates during the last four years, mostly in $500 increments, according to records at the Office of Campaign and Political Finance.....
