The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) has recently certified thestate's newest approved provider of Defensive Driving Courses, makingavailable a humorous new alternative to New Jersey motorists who want toremove points from their driving records or obtain a discount on theirauto insurance premiums.
The new classroom comedy Defensive Driving Course and Internet-basedOnline Defensive Driving Course were created, designed, and produced byTraffic Safety Consultants, Inc. (TSC). The company for the past 33years has been one of the nation's largest providers of traffic safetyeducation. In announcing the new programs, Lawrence Gentilucci, TSC's Director ofOperations, remarked: "TSC strives to provide programs that areinteresting, educational, and easy to use, and our Online DefensiveDriving Course is consistent with that theme." He noted that thewhimsical, easy-to-read text is supplemented with informative photos, colorful charts and illustrations, as well as streaming video clips thatengage the student and thoroughly explain the subject matter. He alsopointed out that the course is peppered with TSC's unique brand oftraffic-related humor. Most importantly, Gentilucci stressed, the onlineprogram is simple enough to navigate that even new Internet users willfind it easy to use.
Gentilucci reported that TSC's classroom lesson plans encourageinstructors to use humorous anecdotes, educational videos, and visualpresentations to aid retention. Students are also provided anillustrated workbook, which closely mirrors the lesson plan and istheirs to keep following the class. He commented:
"We believe that the first law of communication is to get someone'sattention, and the first law of education is retention. Our experiencehas shown that using humor and multimedia learning tools is highlyeffective in capturing students' attention and enabling them to absorband retain the material. If making people laugh is the best means to gettheir attention, ensure they listen while being taught, and rememberwhat they learned, it's a ˜win-win-win' to propagate safe driving."
Gentilucci said prospective students can register for either coursethrough TSC's website, www.NewJerseyComedyDefensiveDriving.com,or by calling toll-free 1-800-356-9705.
