Apr. 14--Turns out that free insurance does sell cars. A test program in which Volkswagen gave away a year's free Nationwide car insurance to Golf and New Beetle buyers in Illinois and Wisconsin sent sales of those models up 23 percent from 2004 levels in those states. Creative Innovators Associates, the Long Island, N.Y.-based think tank that developed the program, said two-thirds of buyers said the insurance incentive influenced their decision to buy the car.....
