Grades are important. For college students and parents alike the motivations to get good grades are plentiful.
Good grades can be essential in keeping student aid such as scholarships and grants.
Auto insurance companies for college students also offer discounts for students that maintain a high grade point average (GPA).
College auto insurance discounts can save up to 25% on the student’s insurance premium.
Most good student discounts require a GPA of a “B” or above.
On a four point grading scale this is a GPA of 3.0 or greater. For most insurance companies there is only one level of good student discount tied to grades. College auto insurance discounts based on grades are due to the insurance company analysts determining that good grades show a level of determination and responsibility that results in a lower risk to the insurance company through less claim activity. For many parents and college students auto insurance discounts help motivate the student to keep their grades up. College students typically pay up to twice what their parents pay for auto insurance, and the discount of up to 25% can result in enough savings to pay for the students books.
