| What needs to be done with car insurance to prepare for deployment? For many service men and women, deployment is part of the service they give to their country. For many military personnel, car insurance is the last thing they want to be worried about while deployed. Many military personnel choose to drop their coverage while they are deployed, some lower their coverage levels to account for the vehicle being kept in a garage, and others need their spouse or child’s policy to stay the same while theirs changes due to deployment. Traditionally, military personnel who chose to drop their coverage while deployed were penalized for having a gap in coverage. Many insurance companies now will waive this penalty for those serving overseas. This allows the returning service member to retain his or her military insurance discounts without being penalized for not needing car insurance while serving his or her country. Discount military auto insurance agents may also advise that the owner keep a low level of coverage on the vehicle in case something happens while the vehicle is in storage. Military personnel car insurance combined with a renter's policy for the place in which the vehicle is stored is often a great way to protect a vehicle while deployed. |
