Summer is a great time to take the car on a road trip. Here are some simple tips to help you make your vacation great! [Let CarInsurance.com help you find affordable auto insurance now.]
- Make sure your insurance is in force!
Most drivers are very conscientious about their car insurance, but if you are a driver that doesn't maintain their car insurance, please contact your carrier to verify you have insurance and your premiums are paid up to date.
- If you are traveling across state lines, verify that your limits of liability are high enough to protect you if you are in an accident. Some states, like Florida have very low liability limit requirements. So, if you travel to a state that requires drivers to have higher limits you may want to make sure your limits are high enough to protect you and your assets.
- If you are renting a car, make sure your insurance coverage will transfer to the rental car. If it does, you may not need to purchase the coverage at the rental car company. There is no reason to purchase double coverage.
- If your car is new or at least 5 years old, make sure you have the regularly scheduled maintenance and oil changed. If it is older, make sure you have a tune-up to verify that it is in good running condition. In addition, check your tire pressure. Make sure the spare tire has sufficient air pressure. If you don't know how to change a tire, read our article about changing a tire on your car.
- If you have Roadside Assistance, store the phone number and membership number in your cell phone or on a piece of paper.
- If your car battery is over 5 years old, replace it.
- Put an emergency kit into your car. Hopefully, you never need it but it is a good idea to have one, even for minor injuries.
At CarInsurance.com, we hope you have a great summer vacation and road trip. Please be careful.
