You are in the mood to buy a new car. You have done your research and narrowed down your choices to a few makes and models. Before going any further you have to try out the vehicle. A key step to finding the right vehicle for you to purchase is to take it out for a test drive.
Researching what car you wanted took time. You were able to do it though and got your choices narrowed down to just a few vehicles. What could put one over the top and become the front runner? Well if it rides better than the rest it could be the one to take home.
Test drives are important to get a feel for how a car handles. You have seen pictures, read over specs, played with what options you would like on the car but there is nothing like sitting in a car yourself and really seeing what it is like. Does it look at good as the picture? Maybe it does but is not nearly as comfortable as it looked in the print ad.
The first step of going out for a test drive is getting to the dealership. Try to find a dealership that has in its inventory the vehicle you are interested in purchasing. It is helpful if car in their inventory also has the options you are wanting. If you want the Tacoma Truck with the sports package it is much more beneficial to you to test drive a Tacoma with a sports package instead of one without it.
Once at the dealership find a salesman that can direct you towards the correct vehicle with the correct options. Sure salespeople can be annoying and pushy but remember they can also be insightful and helpful. They are likely to go with you on your first test drive and while you are driving they will give you detailed information about the whole vehicle. If you have done your research you will probably know all of this but you could learn something new so it does not hurt to listen.
The sales associate that joins you will usually give you direction of where to drive the car. This can be helpful if you are unfamiliar with the roads around the dealership but if you decide you are really interesting in purchasing this car you can ask for a second extended test drive. With this test drive you will want to go on different roadways such as side roads, highways, etc.
An extended test drive will really allow you to feel out the car. There are many questions to ask of yourself and of your passenger. Does it steer and handle like you want? Does it handle well on side roads and freeways? Is it noisy when out on the open road? Is it easy to change gears? Is the seat comfortable? Can you figure out the radio and other knobs on the front console? Is there a place to put your drink?
If you are happy with how the car drives and the comfort of the front seat do not forget to try out the back. If you have kids bring them along to see if they like how it feels in back. Does the back seat really sit as many people as the manufacturer stated? You can try out the back as well and see about leg room and head room for adults. Is everything back there sufficient for your needs?
When you are out on the test drive it is time to answer all of your outstanding questions about the vehicle. It is time to decide if the vehicle will fit or exceed your needs as you know them. It is time to decide if you ready to purchase the vehicle and drive it off the lot, not for a test drive this time but to drive it home for good.
