Can insurance companies cancel your car insurance policy if you have a collection on your credit record? My friend has good credit except for collections from medical bills from when he had cancer surgery. He is slowly paying the doctors but some have sent bills to collection, all his other credit is paid on time and more than minimum. He just got a notice today saying he would be cancelled from insurance because of a collection.

I had $30,000 of Personal Injury Protection, Bodily Injury coverage or $100,000 per person/$300,000 per occurrence. Are my medical bills only covered to $30,000?

To make a long story short, his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and he and his family moved in with his parents. They left a forwarding address and he never received a bill or cancellation notice. Isn't there a grace period?
