Investigators with the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office have made two arrests in separate auto insurance fraud cases.
On Friday, investigators arrested 31-year-old Fontana resident Luis Contreras after he surrendered, according to a District Attorney's news release.
Officials believe he submitted fraudulent receipts with his insurance company when filing a claim for a tractor that was stolen but later recovered in damaged condition in 2007. The receipts were for new tires worth almost $4,000 he said he purchased for the tractor.
He was booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of insurance fraud.
Investigators also arrested Ruben Perez, 24 of Riverside, on suspicion of auto insurance fraud.
Perez surrendered to investigators Aug. 5 and was booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino.
Investigators say he had his 2000 Chevy Tahoe stolen to collect the insurance money.
Charges have been filed in both cases, and arraignment dates are pending.
