July 20 EMB University to Focus on Usage-Based Auto Insurance

EMB, a global property and casualty (P&C) consulting firm, today announced the July 20 EMB University session will focus on Usage-Based Auto Insurance (UBI). Registration information on the WebEx session, which will be held at 8 AM PST, is available at http://www.emb.com/us.

UBI, also known as Pay As You Drive® (PAYD), is a type of automobile insurance where the policy and premiums are dependent on the manner in which a vehicle is used, measured by time, distance, location and specific driving behaviors. UBI differs from traditional auto policies that differentiate and reward safe drivers only based on the absence of claims and violations.

The EMB University session will be led by Robin Harbage, a C-Counsel business consultant with EMB in North America. Harbage has more than 30 years of experience in the property & casualty insurance industry, including more than 20 years at Progressive Insurance ” where he held many roles including managing Progressive's Direct Auto R&D group and implementing Progressive's Pay As You Drive program, now known as MyRate®.He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

"Only a few companies in the US currently sell UBI products, but many others are looking at it as a way to explore and expand their product offering, attract new customers and mitigate risk exposures."

EMB University is a free industry-leading educational Webinar series that debuted in 2005. The monthly sessions cover hot topics in the property and casualty (P&C) industry, allowing attendees to explore theoretical and practical solutions for developing better insurance solutions including insurance pricing, reserving, enterprise risk management (ERM), and modeling methods.

These courses are open to a broad audience, including insurance companies and departments of insurance who are not currently clients of EMB. Attendees pick and choose which sessions to attend based on their needs and interests.

EMB University sessions are also an economic way to meet continuing education requirements sincethese sessions can be considered organized activities for the purposes of continuing education credits. In fact, each EMB University session qualifies as one credit toward the new continuing education requirements set forth by the American Academy of Actuaries (AAA).
