Mar. 15--LANSING -- Michigan motorists got some good news Wednesday: It'll cost them $14.18 less for annual insurance premiums starting July 1. The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) reduced its surcharge, which is included in all Michigan no-fault auto insurance policies. The new assessment will be $123.15 per vehicle....

Mar. 14--With the no-fault personal injury protection law, or PIP, due to die Oct. 1, the Florida Health Association converged on Tallahassee Tuesday to try to put the controversial auto insurance measure on life support for another three years. The FHA, which represents hospitals and doctors, said it was throwing its support behind Senate Bill 1450, which extends the measure through 2010. Created in 1971, PIP requires auto insurers to cover up to $10,000 of driver medical expenses -- regardless of who's at fault in an accident....

The following cases were heard at Cardiff Magistrates' Court: Andrew Lee Price, 19, of Rannoch Drive, Lakeside, Cardiff, was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay pounds 60 court costs after he pleaded guilty to criminal damage. Jade Stroude, 20, of Clive Street, Canton, Cardiff, was fined pounds 35 after pleading guilty to failing to produce her driving licence, MoT or insurance documents for examination and using a car with faulty lights. John Walker, 57, of Hamilton Street, Canton, Cardiff, was fined pounds 200 with pounds 60 court costs and disqualified from driving for three years after pleading guilty to drink-driving and driving without due care and attention....

French insurance provider AXA is rumored to be on the edge of securing a deal with Kyobo Life Insurance Company, to purchase a majority stake in the South Korean insurer's online auto insurance arm, according to sources including Reuters and Youhap News.The deal is expected to be worth $106 million and would position AXA to be the first foreign player in South Korea's auto insurance market, after its withdrawal from South Korea's life insurance market in 2001, reported Reuters. Reuters cited a Kyobo spokesman who had said that the group was still in negotiations with the French general insurer to sell its 74.7% stake in Kyobo Auto Insurance, but confirmed that no deal had yet been signed....

The Senate Commerce and Human Resources Committee axed a bill that would have allowed attorneys to serve auto insurance companies with notification of their clients' lawsuits if defendants in the suits cannot be found. Sen. Mike Burkett, D-Boise, said the bill would only apply to auto accident cases in which the prosecuting attorney cannot find the defendant.
