I was recently convicted of a DUI in Virginia, where I live, and will have a restricted license for one year. My auto policy already exceeds the mandatory requirements set forth on the FR-44 form. Do I still need to inform my insurance company or can I present the DMV with proof of my current policy? I am trying to avoid having my premiums raised or my policy cancelled, of course.

I was driving within the speed limit and swerved to avoid a Christmas tree in the road that had fallen off someones car. My vehicle fishtailed then I did a 360 and it turned over on its side, not hitting anything. It was totalled. There was a witness and the Christmas tree was documented in the police report. My insurance company charged it to my collision coverage. Could it be covered under comprehensive instead?
