I own property in Florida and wanted to purchase a Florida vehicle license & insure it here and leave it for the six months I am back in Canada. I was informed today an agent at a FL licensing office that as of Nov 1, 2009 in order to obtain a Florida Driver's License I would have to be tested and if passed would have to surrender my Ontario Driver's License before being issued the FL license. Well that is impossible because our health insurance is only valid if we are residents of Ontario and as such can not be in the province 10 days without a valid Ontario Driver's license. I can only assume that the state of Florida no longer wants to sell vehicles , license plates and insurance to Canadians that spend six months a year here,do you know this to be correct?
