SR-22s are usually filed electronically now so generally the filing is posted within 2 to 5 days to the state. A form is given immediately by Progressive showing the SR-22 filing and then you can use the form at the Department Motor Vehicles.
In most states there is a fee to file the SR-22, which is on top of the cost of your auto insurance coverages that are associated with the SR-22. Most states charge $15 to $50 as a filing fee for the SR22.
The filing fee is a one-time charge that you will need to pay when the insurer files the SR-22. You will not have to continue to pay the filing fee at each renewal. The only time you should have to pay more than the one time filing fee is if you allow your policy to lapse and your insurance provider has to re-file the SR-22 for you.
A filing fee is charged for each individual SR-22 filed. So if your spouse is on your policy and both you and your spouse need SR-22s filed, than the filing fee will be charged twice (once for you and once for your spouse).
Because the filing fee differs by state and other factors, the fee is not normally included in the rate quote. The fee amount will be provided to you at the time of purchase if you have indicated that you need this certificate of financial responsibility.
