Hi Penny!

Answering your CarInsurance.com questions since 2005

Q

I was hit in a parking lot and my bumper is destroyed. What am I responsible for and do I still have to pay my deductible?

A

I am assuming that you do not know who hit your vehicle. If this is so, you can submit a claim under your own insurance policy. If you do then you will be responsible for your deductible since this would fall under your Collision coverage and your deductible is due whether you are at fault or not.

If you do know who hit your vehicle and they are at-fault than you should be able to place a claim under their Property Damage Liability coverage.

You can comparison shop your policy here by getting a car insurance quote.
