I was involved in a hit and run in Houston, TX. I only got the other person's license plate number. I only have liability insurance on my car which will not cover a hit and run. How can I found out if the person that hit me has insurance or not?

If you have not yet called the police and reported the hit and run you should do so as soon as possible by contacting the local law enforcement agency so they can investigate. With the license plate number you have for the at-fault driver in the hit and run, hopefully the police can track down the vehicle owner.

The Texas Department of Insurance advises that your uninsured motorist coverage will pay for your damage in a hit and-run accident only if the accident is reported to the police. Even without you having this type of coverage it is likely if you find the at-fault party that their insurance company will require a police report on the incident.

If the driver is found and the vehicle owner takes responsibility then you should be able to place a claim with their insurance provider. If instead the police are only able to locate the owner of the vehicle then you may need to check with the Texas Department of Public Safety to see if they will release information on the person's insurance that is on file with them.

Car Insurance Related My parked car was hit by another car. I did not witness it. Having inspected another car on the street it is obvious which car has caused the damage as it is a white car and has green paint from my car down the side of its rear wing. I do not know which house the car is from. What is the best course of action for me? I think that if I confront them they will attempt to clean off the paint from their car leaving no evidence.
Car Insurance Related While pulling out of a parking lot a few weeks ago I accidentally hit a car. I left a note on the car, but minutes after leaving the lot (the other car was still there) it began raining. I don't know if they got my note. Is it possible I can be charged with a hit and run? Will this make my insurance rates go up? I'm very scared now. I haven't seen the car since but I haven't gotten a call from them. I did not get the license place number.
Car Insurance Related Someone hit my car and left no note, nothing. What should I turn this in under? Liability? Comp? or Collision?
