I was recently in a car accident with someone and I had no insurance coverage. The other car had uninsured motorist coverage. What will and can happen to me?

I am sorry to hear about your loss. The specific penalties vary from state to state for driving without insurance and/ or being involved in a motor vehicle accident without insurance. You may be personally liable for the damages you caused even if the other party had insurance. In addition, you may now be subject to certain financial responsibility rules enforced by your state.

I suggest contacting a lawyer to determine your liability exposure and contacting your local driver's license office to determine what action(s) may be taken against your license.

If you like, you can follow this link to get a quote now for auto insurance in Maryland. Esurance is one of the companies that we represent in your state that offers instant insurance coverage over the internet.

Comment Update: You will need to find out the insurance status of the other driver through the local authorities (police report and/or investigation).
