Car Insurance Question  In what states is the windshield covered under comprehensive insurance

In all states comprehensive coverage covers windshields. The terms of comprehensive coverage may differ from insurance company to insurance company so you would need to read through the terms of your policy however comprehensive coverage is what covers glass breakage, including the windshield.

In some states the deductible for windshield repairs or replacements is waived or you may buy glass breakage insurance so that there is no deductible for windshield damages.

There are only a few states in the US that waive the deductible for windshield replacements or repairs as a part of comprehensive coverage. The states of Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts and South Carolina waive the deductible and thus are referred to by some as zero deductible states with regards to windshield claims. Thus without needing to pay a deductible you can call this a "free" windshield replacement.

In these states your insurance company is required by law to repair or replace your windshield with no deductible charged—as long as you have comprehensive insurance on your vehicle. Florida and Massachusetts only fully cover windshields, but Kentucky and South Carolina cover all glass replacement with no deductible.

For example in Arizona you may buy comprehensive coverage with a deductible option. Your deductible will be the amount you agree to pay from your own pocket before your insurer will pay for any damage.

You may also buy full safety equipment coverage to pay to repair or replace the windshield, windows, mirrors, as well as the glass, plastic or other material used in the lights of the vehicle, without having to pay the comprehensive deductible. In addition, you may buy comprehensive coverage with different deductible amounts for each vehicle covered by your policy.

In New York under comprehensive coverage, your insurer pays you, without regard to fault, for damage to your car from all causes, other than collision, such as theft (of the car itself or its parts), fire, flood, windstorm, glass breakage, vandalism, hitting or being hit by an animal, or by falling or flying objects.

NYS comprehensive and collision deductible options generally offered are $100, $200 (standard), $250, $500 and $1,000. Coverage may also be sold where the deductible does not apply to window glass damage in New York.

Many CarInsurance.com companies offer a Full Glass or 0 Glass Deductible option that is available instead of selecting a deductible when the windshield is broken or damaged.

If your windshield has been cracked or broken so that it needs repaired or replaced than you should make a claim through the comprehensive portion of your auto insurance policy. Even if you do not live in FL, MA, SC or KY you can always ask your insurance carrier if they can waive the deductible for a windshield claim. Some insurance companies will waive the deductible for windshield repairs or replacements if their underwriting guidelines allow them to so.
